Nabeel Masih’s Fight for Life After Blasphemy Charges and Unjust Imprisonment

Nabeel Masih, just 16 years old when his life was torn apart, has endured a nightmare no child should ever have to face. Arrested falsely on charges of blasphemy in Phoolnagar, District Kasur, on 18th September 2016, Nabeel was thrust into a world of pain and injustice. A child, accused of a crime he didn’t commit, languished in District Jail Kasur for five long years without trial or conviction. His innocence was ignored, and the world seemed to turn its back on him.

But Nabeel’s story did not end in the darkness of his unjust imprisonment. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the British Asian Christian Association (BACA), he was granted bail and released in March 2021. However, the toll of his wrongful incarceration left deep scars, both on his body and soul. He endured two major surgeries to remove painful lipomas, the first in May 2021 and the second in March 2025. Through all of this, BACA stood by his side, providing him with a safe haven, covering his medical and living expenses, and offering him the support he so desperately needed.

Yet, despite the hope that his release brought, Nabeel’s life was far from easy. Last month, his health began to deteriorate rapidly. Nabeel reached out to BACA’s operations manager, describing severe fatigue, jaundice, and nausea—symptoms that indicated something gravely wrong. A visit to Hamid Latif Hospital in Lahore revealed disturbing news. An ultrasound showed that his liver and spleen were enlarged, and liver function tests revealed dangerously high bilirubin levels, a telltale sign of acute liver inflammation caused by Hepatitis E.

Despite a brief improvement, Nabeel’s condition worsened. On 11th July, his bilirubin levels spiked again. By 19th July, he could no longer walk or speak, wracked with pain, vomiting uncontrollably. He was taken to The Indus Hospital for emergency care, but the severity of his condition meant he was soon transferred to an intensive care unit for round-the-clock treatment. Now, he lies in a fragile, drowsy state, fighting desperately for his life.

His father, Amanat Masih, speaks from the depths of a father’s anguish:
“I’ve already watched my son suffer for years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Now I’m watching him fade before my eyes—weak, in pain, and unable to speak. I feel helpless. Please… I beg you, pray for him. Help me save my son’s life.”

This is a cry for mercy, a plea from a father who has seen his son endure unimaginable suffering. Now, more than ever, Nabeel needs our prayers, our support, and our compassion.

Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee for BACA, expressed the heartbreak shared by many:
“Nabeel Masih has already endured more suffering in his short life than most of us could imagine—imprisoned as a child for a crime he never committed, and now fighting for his life in a hospital bed. It breaks my heart to see this young man, who has shown such courage and resilience, reduced to such a fragile state. We are doing all we can, but we urgently need the global Church and every compassionate soul to stand with us in prayer and support. His life hangs in the balance—and together, we can help save it.”

We call on the global Christian community, our friends, and supporters around the world to unite in prayer for Nabeel’s healing. This young man has already faced the unimaginable. Let’s stand with him in his fight for survival, believing in the power of prayer and the compassion that can heal even the deepest wounds.
